MEET THE SPEAKERS:

Prof. Gafni is a professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he earned his doctorate and has been teaching for over 40 years. He is also a visiting professor at a number of prestigious universities throughout the world, including Harvard, Yale, Oxford, Chicago and Rome. Prof. Gafni has received a number of awards and has published an extensive list of works on the social, religious and cultural history of Jews in antiquity, including 15 books.

Prof. Reich is one of Israel’s most renowned archaeologists. He has spearheaded a number of important excavations in Jerusalem since the 1970s, mainly in the City of David. A Professor Emeritus at the University of Haifa, he is an expert on the Second Temple period and the period of the Mishnah and Talmud. He has authored several books on the archeology of the Land of Israel, and has also published more than 200 academic articles.

Prof. Magness is a professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the United States. With a degree in classical archeology from the University of Pennsylvania, she has taken part in over 20 excavations in Israel and Greece, including co-directing the 1995 excavations at Masada. An author of dozens of academic articles, Prof. Magness has published a number of books, including works on Massada and Qumran, which have earned prestigious international awards.

Dr. Roitman is the curator of the Shrine of the Book, which houses the renowned Dead Sea Scrolls at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, one of the world’s leading archaeological museums. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, an MA in Comparative Religions, and a PhD in Literature and Ancient Jewish Thought from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He has taken part in documentaries for the National Geographic Channel and Netflix, among others.

A former coordinator of scientific projects at the Yad Ben-Zvi Institute in Jerusalem, Dr. Meiron is an academic consultant for historical and archaeological projects in Israel. He has published dozens of books on the topic of the Land of Israel, and is the scientific editor of the City of David Studies of Ancient Jerusalem Conference’s annual publication. He has taught courses at Bar-Ilan University and published two university books on the history of Jerusalem.

Yehuda Kaplan is an specialist on Biblical Archeology, History of the Land of Israel and the Ancient Middle East from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He is a Director of the Department of Education at the Bible Lands Museum. Kaplan has taught courses in Biblical History at the Schechter Institute and at the Rothberg International School for foreign students at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Prof. Regev is a member of the Department of Land of Israel Studies and Archeology at Bar-Ilan University, where he also received his PhD. His postgraduate studies were completed at Harvard University. His research focuses on the history and archeology of the Second Temple period, Qumran, early Christianity and Herod. An author of numerous books, he has published over 100 articles in academic journals.
